Vintage royal doulton stoneware tobacco jar featuring The night watchman. From the dickens series i believe this to be a early piece as apart from the doulton stamp a undecipherable rd number and what looks d22169 there are no other marks. Making this unusual is the addition of a very heavy lead lid which has a very tactile knob also in lead to keep your tobacco dry.Its is showing four scenes of the nightwatchman carrying his lantern on a pole doing his rounds walking the cobblestones with the backdrop showing Victorian houses on a very gloomy night.. The jar is in very good condition for a turn of the century piece of pottery. Stands 6 inch tall and 4 3/4 wide
