These 2 spectacular examples of a wall hanging Burmese ‘Kalaga’ comes in the form of a dancer with copious amounts of beaded, sequined and gold threaded embellishment. A wonderfully heavy pieces thanks to the glass cabochon beading and metal sequins, with the dancer having been lightly stuffed to give a 3D effect then mounted on black velvet, and the remarkably detailed embroidery, all put together, make these a stunning pieces of folk art.Kalaga’s are traditionally made from linen, silk, velvet and cotton and can take many weeks to complete. The scenes usually depict classical Burmese plays (Burma is now Myanmar) for example, ‘Ramayana’ and ‘Jataka’The condition of this piece is consistent with its vintage years circa 1900 there are some glass cabochons missing with a few loose threads because of this, but overall, these kalaga are in very good shape as a wall hanging.Each kalaga is unique to the next and these sought after pieces of Burmese history look very impressive displayed alongside each other 21 inch x 21 inch
