rare Indian Pidha tribal chair with exotic elephant motif back panel. Folding version with hinged back for ease of transportation by a nomad through the Thar desert  strapped to a camel.  They come to us from the Thar Desert in Rajasthan, and date back to the early 20th c. They are the hinged version of the genre, no doubt having swayed gently from side to side on the back of a tribal nomad’s camel in decades previous. And authentic tribal pidha chairs with their original sisal rope webbing still in tact, and displaying a lovely aged patina to the turned and carved wooden surfaces.
